Mame not finding any roms + other questions

I bought a new GP2X Wiz and am working on getting it setup. Here's what I've got: The Wiz and a fresh 32gb SD card, which is really a microSD put into an SD adapter card. Works great and Wiz seems to recognize it without any trouble. I blank erased the entire SD and formatted as Fat32.

I setup game/ at the root of the card, and unzipped the Mame4All emulator into that folder (with all of it's subfolders). In the /roms/ folder, I put in just a small few for testing. I put in Joust, Joust 2, Shao-lins Road, etc. Just a few. I also was careful to make sure that those directories are labeled according to the "gamelist.txt" file which is in the mame4all zip. So the filepath to the actual mame files is for example:

(sd card root):game/roms/joust2/ic08_r1.cpu (and so on)

Still, whenever I use the Wiz to go to "launcher", then I find mame.gpe, it shows the screen for a second, then "error: no games are found" (don't remember exact quote).

I have tried many different things, but I haven't found any way to make this work. I was able to make the GameBoy Advance stuff work perfectly, and have about 30 games installed for that. Once I launch the GBA emulator, they show up and I can easily choose and play games. But with MAME, I cannot.

Hi Gylippus - as to the MAME roms you just need to correct version of the ROM in order for it to work. Kinda confusing that one ROM can have multiple versions but that's just the way it is. You might be interested in the MAME GP2X Wiz Full ROMSet torrent, which is available here. Thousands of working titles for endless fun (thumbs up)...

For TG16 CD I haven't been able to get it working. Neither on the PC emulator, nor on the Wiz. Anyone else done this before??

Thanks for the tips. So...Here is what is happening. First, I loaded some turbo roms and they work great. However, I did have one questions. How do you load the turbo cd games? Some of the m come in multiple downloads. The one game I was looking at is cosmic fantasy. It has two downloads. They are in .zip. When they are unzipped there is a folder full of a lot of .mp3 files and .iso files.

My other issue is the mame. I followed your advice and loaded 3 roms that are included in a list of roms that work with the wiz. All three of them show up in the wiz and open but all three of them say: Error: required files are missing, the game cannot be run. Any help is appreciated.

To Gylippus - if the zip files are in the mame/roms folder then I'm guessing you have some roms in there which aren't supported by the current release of MAME4ALL Wiz. Which title(s) do you have?

I'd suggest trying a few titles which are known to work such as simpsons, galaga88, etc. Get them from some of the big rom sites and then see if they are recognized. Keep me posted and good luck!

I am having a similar problem as a person above. I have the mame emu installed and can open it just fine but when I go to run a rom it says "error no games found" even though I can see the .zip file in the roms folder. What was the solution again?

Thanks again for your help. i have tried even way i can think of. I have it off then turn it on and then on and just plug...pretty much every combination that i could think of and have only gotten it to work once this morning. i am begining to think you are right and that it is a driver/compatability issue. I am going to take your advice and plug in into something running XP or even vista and see what happens...

thanks again

Sorry if this question sounds elementary - but do you plug the Wiz in via USB when it's already turned on, or is the Wiz off ... you plug it in ... then try to make the connection? It works either way for me, but I'm on XP still. I don't have experience with Windows 7 at this point, but my initial guess is driver/compatability. As a test, perhaps you can try plugging the Wiz into a different machine to see if you can make a consistent connection - and if it does work then it must be something to do with Windows 7... ?

Hi me, that's strange. U running Windows? What version? I've not experienced that problem myself but you might also want to double check that you aren't going through a USB hub, and plugging it directly into the computer. I once had an issue with a Samsung phone not synching properly, and it was because I was trying to go through a USB hub instead of plugging into the computer directly. Can you share any other specific details about your configureation? I hope this helps...

Thank you very much! I installed the emu and it work great! I am not having any trouble saving now. However I now have another question. When I connect my wiz to my computer sometimes my computer sees it and sometimes it doesn’t. It’s kind of a crap shoot every time I try to connect. Any advice? What am I missing? I am not sure how to get my computer to talk to my wiz. Is there a driver that I am missing?

Me

PS thanks again for your pervious help.

If you are using the NES emulator for the Wiz Gpfce, then all you need to do is press the Volume Up + Volume Down buttons during game play to bring up the emulator menu. From there you can Save/Load states, etc.
